I finished reading The Cure yesterday. This is not a review of the book, but rather something I discovered through reading the book and doing research on these so-called "flushes" that are advertised all over the internet and in his book.
My beloved uncle has recently had terrible gallbladder attacks and is scheduled for surgery to remove his gallbladder in several weeks. I read in "The Cure" about a client named Kathy who, after doing a liver/gallbladder cleanse, released her gallstones. I spoke to my uncle on the phone yesterday. He has intense trepidations about going under the knife, as many people do, and I told him, naively, about what I had just read about releasing gallstones by doing flushes and cleanses. I jumped on the internet and did some intense research, trying to find an alternative way for my uncle, so that he can keep his organ. My mother had her gallbladder removed years ago and regrets it. But is there another choice?
I researched for hours. I learned and read about:
1. "Dr." Hulda Clark's cleanses, which are supposedly the most popular out there
2. All of the liver/gall cleanses are the same recipe:
Apple juice for a week
Epsom salt (4 tablespoons!)
Olive oil
Lemon juice, or grapefruit juice
3. Epsom salt is 100% magnesium sulfate.
4. Magnesium sulfate, when ingested, can lead to hypermagnesemia and death
5. Read about it here http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/500188_3
6. These cleanses supposedly make you release and flush out your gallstones.
7. I saw some disgusting photos of these large stones that people excreted, some of which are up to 3 CM.
8. Bile ducts are 4 mm thin. FOUR MILIMETERS!
9. You do the math.
10. A large stone CANNOT pass from the gallbladder to your small intenstine without massive amounts of pain, and definitely can't do so as a response to this toxic recipe.
I am no scientist, but I have some detective skills, and common sense. I figured that the acidity of the apple and lemon juices in combination with olive oil and epsom salts probably CREATES these stones and then your body flushes them out. People see hundreds of these "gallstones" and think they've been cured.
This is tragic for two reasons. One, these so-called natural health practitioners are tricking us. Many people, desperate for health solutions other than the traditional Western medical ones, which we are often terrified of, follow these naturopathic practices, and unknowingly poison their own bodies. The implications of this are enormous, these practitioners are doing a huge disservice to people, while claiming to "heal" them. I'm not sure if Timothy Brantley belongs in this category of quacks, because I have not tried his mysterious "herbal formulas." I desperately want to take on his program and become super healthy and rid myself of whatever imbalances I have, but the fact that I have no idea what is in his mysterious potions makes me wary. Having Frasier's quote on the back cover just doesn't cut it for me.
Two, maybe there is no other solution to painful symptomatic gallstones other than removing the gallbladder. It seems invasive and barbaric to me, to remove an organ when it is blocked up and causing us pain. 300,000 Americans go through this procedure a year. Is there a REAL way to safely disolve and or remove gallstones?
